Lisbon treaty

The entry into force of The Treaty of Lisbon on 1 December 2009 provided the EU with a new legal framework and tools to tackle challenges of increasing common interest such as globalisation, climatic and demographic changes, security and energy.

The Lisbon Treaty marks a new stage in the process of European integration and brings new challenges to the EU institutions, to individual EU Member States, but especially to the EU MS citizens amidst increasing hesitations and critical attitudes towards EU policy making and policy makers. The citizens of the EU MS must by all means become an active part of the new European architecture created by the Treaty of Lisbon.
